Newtown's New Pickleball Facility Benefiting Active Seniors & Retirees

Great news for seniors, retirees and all pickleball enthusiasts looking for indoor courts in Newtown!

The Picklr is bringing an 11-court indoor facility to town, transforming the former Bed, Bath, and Beyond store into a vibrant sports venue.

This exciting development not only offers a fantastic place to stay active but also coincides with potential benefits available through certain Medicare plans, making it easier for retirees and those nearing retirement to maintain a healthy, active lifestyle.

Let’s dive into the details of this new facility and how you can leverage Medicare plans in Bucks County to support your love for pickleball.

The Picklr Facility

The Picklr is converting the vacant Bed, Bath, and Beyond store at 20 West Road into an 11-court indoor pickleball facility.

The 30,000-square-foot space will become a membership-only club featuring professional-grade courts, a pro shop, private event areas, and locker rooms.

The Newtown Township Planning Commission has backed this project, and it now awaits a final vote from the Newtown Township Board of Supervisors.

The Newtown location is set to open in December 2024, marking The Picklr’s first location in Pennsylvania.

Why Pickleball is Great for Seniors

Pickleball is gaining popularity, especially among retirees. It’s a fun and engaging way to stay fit and socially active.

According to the 2022 State of Pickleball report, the sport saw an 85% increase in players, totaling 8.9 million participants.

The health benefits of playing pickleball are numerous, including improved cardiovascular health, enhanced balance and coordination, and increased social interaction.

For retirees and those nearing retirement, pickleball offers a low impact yet effective workout, making it an ideal sport to embrace.

Medicare Plans and Health Benefits for Active Seniors

Staying active is crucial for maintaining health in retirement, and the right Medicare plan can make it easier.

Medicare Advantage plans and Medicare Supplement plans often include benefits that are perfect for pickleball enthusiasts.

These plans can cover a range of services, including physical therapy, wellness programs, and fitness memberships.

Medicare Advantage Plans

Medicare Advantage plans, also known as Medicare Part C, offer an alternative to Original Medicare.

These plans are provided by private insurance companies and often include additional benefits like dental, vision, and wellness programs.

For pickleball players, these plans may cover fitness memberships such as SilverSneakers, which provides access to various gyms and fitness centers.

Medicare Supplement Plans

Medicare Supplement plans, also known as Medigap, help cover costs not included in Original Medicare, such as copayments, coinsurance, and deductibles.

While Medigap plans don’t typically cover fitness memberships, they can reduce out-of-pocket costs for medical services, making it easier to afford physical therapy and other health-related expenses.

  • Explore SilverSneakers: SilverSneakers is a popular fitness program available through many Medicare Advantage plans. It provides access to numerous gyms and fitness centers, making it easier to stay active and healthy.
  • Consider Physical Therapy Coverage: If you experience any injuries or need rehabilitation, having a Medicare plan that covers physical therapy can be beneficial. This ensures you receive the necessary care without incurring high out-of-pocket costs.
